Sonic is sprinting onto the Wii with the latest installment of the Storybook series.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players are set to unleash the blue beast this holiday season, so its only fair that Wii owners receive Sonic and the Black Knight, an adventure game developed by the Sonic Team in Japan.

As part of the fresh Sonic “Storybook” series, Black Knight transports Sonic into the era of King Arthur, where the blue hedgehog will have the opportunity to fight as a knight using both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck attachment.

A follow-up to Secret Rings, a title based on the story of Aladdin, the Wii’s “Storybook” series of games allows Sonic to traverse the worlds of various kids stories in a three-dimensional adventure.

News on the game is scarce, but the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power has a cover story on Black Knight with a semi-armored Sonic brandishing a sword. How swordplay and the Wii Remote will interact has not yet been revealed.

“After the success of Sonic and the Secret Rings we’re delighted to announce a second title in the Storybook Series,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, Sega Europe. “Following Sonic on his way to knighthood will excite players of all ages.”

Sonic and the Black Knight is scheduled for release in Spring 2009.
