Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie Lands Official Title and Logo

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie

If you’re dealing with Sonic, then that means you gotta go fast, and that rule seems to apply to the name of the sequel to last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog. The official name of the movie is Sonic the Hedgehog 2. There’s no subtitle or colon here to trip up your fast running action. No pun or play on words to make you lose all your rings as you come crashing out of a loop-de-loop. No, just a simple number added onto the end to alert you that this is indeed the second film in the series.

Now, the logo showing off the official name does give a bit more of a hint about what the movie will feature. As teased at the end of the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, Tails appears to be showing up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The number two at the end of the logo features his trademark dual tails, and the number itself is the same orange as his fur. In the motion teaser for the title treatment we see an orange blur also telling us that, yes, Tails is in this movie.

The first Sonic film turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable despite going through a complete redesign of the character after the entire world was given night terrors by Sonic’s disturbing original design. That probably won’t happen this time around as we got to see a hint of Tails at the end of the first film, and his design looked pretty in-line with Sonic’s second version and humanity’s desire to not go extinct from everyone’s eyes burning out of their skulls. The scene showed Tails hopping into our world on a search for Sonic and saying, “I hope I’m not too late.” But just what is he not too late for?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to release on April 2, 2022. The Blue Blur will also be getting a new animated show on Netflix that year.
