Brian Horton, creative director at Insomniac Games, took to the PlayStation.Blog to share more information about PlayStation 5’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The studio clarified that this entry will be similar to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, as it is a standalone experience and is an “important, heartfelt, emotional, and essential experience” for this particular Spider-Man universe.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will take place in New York City roughly a year after the events of the first game, around Christmastime. It will explore the titular character’s new set of powers, as well as his own multicultural background centering on his home of Harlem. Horton also assured that “Peter Parker is OK” and more stories will be told with him, but this new game will squarely focus on Miles’ story.
The game will take full advantage of PlayStation 5 hardware and the capabilities of the DualSense controller. Additionally, the game will feature near-instant loading times, ray tracing, and 3D audio. The city’s graphical assets from the first game are also upgraded for the PS5, providing a new way for players to experience New York.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales was first revealed at Sony’s PlayStation 5 event and is on track to release holiday 2020, potentially as a launch title, for its next-generation machine.
