Electronic Arts and Maxis have announced that the Spore Creature Creator will be available in June as both a free downloadable demo and a “complete retail version” in stores.
The Spore Creature Creator demo will include about one-quarter of the “creature-making parts” that will be included in the full release of Spore, due later this year. Everything made with the Creature Creator can be imported into the game, and prior to its release, creature-makers can share their designs with friends via seamless uploads to YouTube.
“We are thrilled to finally be putting the creative tools of Spore into the hands of players around the world,” said Spore creator Will Wright. “The amazing creations players design this summer will help populate the game universe we all enter when Spore ships this September, so in a sense, the Spore Creature Creator is the birth of Spore.”
The Spore Creature Creator demo will be released via free download at www.spore.com beginning June 17, while a full version featuring all the creature-making parts included in the game will go on sale in North America for $9.99 and in some European countries for €9.99. The retail version of the Spore Creature Creator will not be available in the U.K.
The highly-anticipated Spore, the biggest sandbox yet to come from Sim mastermind Will Wright, goes on sale in September 5 in Europe and September 7 in North America.
