Star Trek Online, the upcoming MMOG from Cryptic Studios, is now accepting applications for closed beta testing that’s set to begin later this year.
Cryptic is looking for help from the fans to “work out kinks, squash bugs and create the best Star Trek experience we can.” A specific start date for the beta hasn’t been revealed; the studio says only that testing will begin sometime before the end of 2009.
The beta is closed, which means you have to apply and then wait patiently for your number to be called. It’s a simple process: Go here, fill in a few blanks and then exercise Vulcan-like patience while Cryptic gives out beta keys to like literally every single friggin’ person in the world except you. Oh, I’m sure it won’t be that bad. It’ll only seem that way.
On the other hand, if you don’t feel like waiting, there is a second way in: Anyone who purchases either a six-month or lifetime subscription to Champions Online will be automatically entered into the beta. You won’t even need to apply!
Don’t get too excited though: Despite the looming beta and an Atari financial statement released in May that suggested the game would be out by early next year, Cryptic still hasn’t announced an official launch date for the game.
