If you get excited when you recognize an old thing is back on your TV screen again, regardless of if that old thing has anything new or meaningful to say, then you’ll love the nostalgia explosion that is the Star Trek: Picard season 3 teaser trailer on Paramount+. The Picard season 3 trailer released today as part of a Star Trek panel at New York Comic Con, showcasing many returning characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, including some we did not know about previously.
Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Michael Dorn are all back from TNG. This time, Spiner is playing Lore, who was basically Data’s evil twin in TNG. Daniel Davis is also bafflingly returning as his rendition of Professor Moriarty from TNG. Meanwhile, Amanda Plummer, daughter of the late Christopher Plummer who played General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, will play a new character named Vadic, who (per Variety) is “the mysterious alien captain of the Shrike, a warship that has set its sights on Jean-Luc Picard and his old crewmates from his days on the Enterprise.”
And lastly, Geordi La Forge’s (LeVar Burton) oldest and youngest daughters, Ensign Sidney La Forge and Ensign Alandra La Forge, will be portrayed by Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut and Mica Burton. Mica is also the real-life daughter of LeVar Burton. Picard season 3 will premiere on February 16, 2023 on Paramount+.
If you enjoyed the first couple seasons of Star Trek: Picard, the season 3 teaser trailer suggests you’ll have a good time with this one too. And if you recoil in horror at the existence of the first couple seasons, you might be driven to drink over this trailer. Regardless, season 3 will be the conclusion of the series, so all the pain and all the pleasure will be gone soon. This too shall pass.
… Unless that Picard movie Patrick Stewart keeps asking for happens.
