A short Star Trek: Resurgence gameplay video from developer Dramatic Labs (via IGN) gives us a good look at some pre-release dialogue options and a convincing Leonard Nimoy Spock impression. The uncut seven-minute clip puts the player at the negotiating table with lots of narrative choices to make. Each decision looks to give players the freedom to steer away or toward conflict. See Star Trek: Resurgence and Spock in action in the gameplay video below.
Dramatic Labs revealed its contribution to the Star Trek universe during The Game Awards 2021. Much of the studio is composed of former Telltale developers who worked on The Walking Dead, Batman, and Game of Thrones video games. Each of those titles features a similar choice-based narrative, so it’s no surprise to see Star Trek: Resurgence adopting those same elements. That said, this game seeks to expand on the tried and true formula with more traditional action-adventure gameplay, including stealth segments, piloting, phaser fights, and more.
Unlike the old Telltale games, Star Trek: Resurgence will release as a single package as opposed to in episodes. The story takes place in the year 2380, immediately after the events of the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies. A more detailed synopsis can be seen below:
Stationed aboard the U.S.S. RESOLUTE, players will assume the role of two principal characters, First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz, as they unravel a sinister mystery involving two alien civilizations on the brink of war. Throughout the game, players will immerse themselves in the Star Trek universe, interacting with new and returning characters through a variety of dialogue and action gameplay to determine the course of the story.
Star Trek: Resurgence is set to launch for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S sometime this year. Stay tuned for more information from Dramatic Labs.
