Get excited because we’re finally getting a Star Wars TV show that doesn’t take place on a desert planet. Well, at least it looks like Star Wars: Andor won’t be taking place on one, if the new official trailer is to be trusted. The Disney+ series, which takes place prior to Rogue One, dropped the Andor trailer today alongside a new, delayed release date of September 21, 2022. That delay isn’t all bad, though. It means that we’ll be getting a three-episode premiere.
Andor sees the return of Diego Luna as Cassian Andor as he and others begin the fight against the Empire and become official Rebel Scum™. The series will focus on his character joining the fledgling Rebels as Luthen (Stellan Skarsgård) begins to form what will one day be the downfall of the Empire. It looks like the show will be a solid mixture of space lasers, political intrigue, and evil Empire being evil. We also get a surprise appearance from Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), whom you may recall from Rogue One as well.
For a spinoff series that plenty were questioning the need for, this Andor official trailer looks incredibly exciting. The focus on more than just Cassian Andor and his story gives the series a far bigger feeling to it, and there’s something exciting about seeing the inner workings of the Empire at its full strength. We’re definitely going to be getting a good look at both sides of the fight here, if the trailer is an accurate representation.
The series has a fantastic cast, including Genevieve O’Reilly returning as Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw, and Robert Emms. It was written by Tony and Dan Gilroy, with the former also acting as showrunner. There will be 12 episodes in this first season, which, compared to most other big streaming series, is a good chunk. We’ll also definitely be getting a second season as the show is said to be a two-season series.
Star Wars: Andor will premiere with three episodes on its new release date of September 21 on Disney+.
