Star Wars: Republic Commando is making its PlayStation and Nintendo console debut in April. Aspyr Media, the company behind ports for games such as Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Star Wars Episode I: Racer, is handling the new port and will launch the game at $14.99 on April 6 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 (also available through typical backward compatibility on PlayStation 5). Star Wars: Republic Commando first launched in 2005 for PC and the original Xbox, but you can currently play it on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S as well. Aspyr has released a new trailer for the game.
The PlayStation 4 and Switch release also comes with a few changes, including updated controls and, on PlayStation, trophies to hunt for. Though the port features the single-player component, it looks like the game’s original multiplayer mode will not be returning.
Star Wars: Republic Commando is a tactical FPS that follows Delta Squad, a well-trained group of clone troopers, as players command their teammates in order to dominate enemies in each mission. The game’s reappearance isn’t exactly a total surprise, though; its Switch version leaked a few weeks ago.
Lucasfilm recently unveiled Lucasfilm Games, a rebranding of its video game branch. With the change in name, the company announced that EA would no longer be the sole publisher churning out Star Wars games, with Ubisoft already working on its own project in pop culture’s most famous sci-fi universe. Here’s to hoping that we eventually get to see Star Wars: Republic Commando get some sort of official sequel.
