Bethesda Game Studios has revealed that the protagonist in Starfield will not have a voice, according to a social media post. This decision marks a distinct shift from the studio’s previous single-player, large-scale RPG, Fallout 4, which featured a fully voice-acted protagonist. The social media post also clarifies that dialogue takes place from the first-person perspective, though it’s important to note that players can enjoy the game from a third-person perspective if they so choose.
Previous Bethesda Games Studios titles, such as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, featured a protagonist with no voice as well. Starfield’s move might signal that Bethesda is more interested in letting players connect to the world around them than prescribing a certain feeling to the player character.

After four years of waiting since its official announcement, patient fans got to see 15 minutes of Starfield gameplay yesterday during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. Some of the footage focused on what you’d expect: first-person gunplay, new characters and factions, strange alien planets, etc. Despite a recent delay, Starfield is looking good ahead of its 2023 launch. One highlight from the presentation was ship combat and ship building, which teased an expansive system that lets players customize their ride to their liking.
Starfield has no new release date yet, but it sounds like Bethesda plans to give players an immersive experience. Stay tuned for more information while we wait for the game to launch for PC, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox Game Pass some time in the first half of 2023.
