Tactics Ogre: Reborn has leaked with a listing on the PlayStation Store. Square Enix had trademarked “Tactics Ogre: Reborn” in Japan this past March, so this is confirmation that the game exists. The new PS Store listing has no pricing or release date details, nor does it provide any real details about what the game actually is. Instead, it just offers the game name, game icon art (below), gorgeous promotional art (further below), and the fact that it is a role-playing game from Square Enix. However, by looking at the leaked art on the PlayStation Store, it’s clear that Tactics Ogre: Reborn is either a remaster or a remake of the original Tactics Ogre.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together first released for Super Famicom in Japan in 1995, and it finally came to the West in 1998 with a PlayStation 1 port. It was a grid-based tactical RPG developed by Quest and directed by Yasumi Matsuno, who would go on to direct Final Fantasy Tactics for Square. Tactics Ogre is remembered for its deep (and punishing) gameplay and sophisticated storytelling, with branching paths that significantly changed the story. It received a remake for Sony PSP that launched in the West in 2011.
It will be curious to see how much Tactics Ogre: Reborn differs from previous releases of the game, as right now, all we know from this leak is that it is headed to PlayStation.
