The Binding of Isaac Creeps Past 700k Sales

After surprisingly strong sales, creepy dungeon crawler The Binding of Isaac may be coming to consoles.

Freaky dungeon crawler, The Binding of Isaac certainly seems to have captured people’s hearts – the game has sold over 700,000 copies since it was released back in September of last year. 1/5th of those sales were made during the three weeks following the release of the title’s first expansion, The Wrath of the Lamb.

Since the launch of said expansion was a bit on the rough side, the developer has released a free update that fixes a few outstanding bugs and adds new content, achievements, music and another ending.

“Who would have thought a game about an abused child fighting off his mother with his tears could ever sell 700k copies in less than a year? Not me, that’s for fucking sure,” tweeted designer, Edmund McMillen, whose previous work includes Super Meatboy, Gish and Cunt.

“This is also a big thank you to the fans who have honestly carried this game to stardom,” he continued. “We are eternally grateful for your support, creativity and devotion. 700k is a big number… maybe it’s time to bring this thing to console. ;)”

Back in February, Nintendo decided not to allow Binding of Isaac to appear on the 3DS, apparently due to its “questionable religious content.”
