Comiket is a festival in Japan that celebrates “Doujinshi” – self-published Japanese manga.
Comiket started up as a way for aspiring “Doujinshi” artists (essentially, indie manga artists) to trade their works. While the festival has grown over time to include a presence from mainstream anime, manga, and video game creators, it still maintains its grassroots feel. Of course, being a Japanese convention, it is ripe with some of the best cosplay of the world. Check out some of the best outfits from the show, courtesy of FANTiM Fotography.
First up, cosplayer Nyanya Leira as Quiz Magic Academy’s Sharon:
Next, here is Fumika Sagisawa and Frederica Miyamoto from THE IDOLM@STER.
Here’s an odd one for you: Pepsiman, from the old Japanese Pepsi commercials.
Two pretty fantastic costumes, though we aren’t sure if they are original characters or based on something else.
Here we have two guys in full military garb, possibly from Battlefield 4, or maybe from Call of Duty. I wonder if they are hunting… wait for it…
This guy, who is no fucking joke dressed up as an ISIS terrorist. Things you can’t do in the United States…
It wouldn’t be an anime convention without at least one sexy anime cat girl.
Splatoon is one of the hottest new things out of Japan these days, so its no surprise there were a few excellent cosplays.
The Force Awakens is just as big in Japan as it is in the states, as evidenced by this perfect Kylo Ren cosplay!
Here’s a good old classic Mario to round things out.
Old school anime fans will recognize Arale from Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama’s first manga.
Those who have been keeping up with One Piece will recognize characters Luffy and Law, despite their flawless disguises…
This girl is cosplaying a character from upcoming MMO Blade and Soul.
Here’s a really, really old school one, a solider from one of anime legend Hayao Miyazaki’s first works: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
This is a pretty spot-on Meiko.
Here’s Madoka, from Magical Girl Madoka.
Deadpool even managed to crash the party somehow…
Here we have Nikkari Aoe and Ishikirimaru from Touken Ranbu.
This colorful character is Hakaider from Android Kikaider.
Lastly, we have Yukiho Hagiwara and Yayoi Takatsuki from THE IDOLM@STER
That’s all for this year’s Winter Comiket! There is a second “Summer” Comiket held in August every year, so stay tuned for that. If you’d like to check out more of FANTiM’s work, be sure to peruse his website.
