Sony Interactive Entertainment and Worldwide Studios have announced that The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima both have new official release dates. The Last of Us Part II will launch on June 19, and Ghost of Tsushima will now launch on July 17.
Sony noted that the world had been changed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and both Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions have had to adjust their working styles. The Last of Us Part II was set to launch on May 29 but was delayed earlier this month indefinitely due to logistical issues tied to launching during a global crisis. However, as a result of ease in restrictions for global distribution, Sony was able to confirm the new release date.
Additionally, Ghost of Tsushima will now release on July 17, pushed back from its original June 26 release date. Along with the then-indefinite delay announcement for The Last of Us Part II earlier this month, Iron Man VR was also delayed. However, there has been no confirmation of a new release date for that title.
COVID-19 has drastically changed the gaming landscape, including causing the cancellation of E3 2020. Due to this pandemic, publishers have been hoping to reschedule with their own digital events. The Escapist has a showcase of its own in the works.
