The time has almost come for Amazon to either launch a groundbreaking fantasy series or fail miserably, all while adapting one of the most beloved properties on (Middle-)Earth. The full, official trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power proudly announces the series is debuting September 2, which, in case you hate calendars, is very close.
This is probably the most plot-driven trailer we’ve gotten of The Rings of Power, as we hear a host of characters discuss the importance of standing up for what is right and why everyone really needs to go on a great adventure. The trailer is especially focused on Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, as she forms her own fellowship on a quest to destroy a new evil that is encroaching on Middle-earth, an evil that has created the Rings of Power.
She’s fighting against those who do not believe that Sauron is returning or has been corrupted by his evil already but is joined by Elendil, played by Lloyd Owen, a man who will help unite men and elves in the battle that will temporarily defeat the dark lord. There is even more to the massive cast of the show including Owain Arthur as the dwarf Prince Durin IV, Sophia Nomvete as dwarven princess Disa, Ismael Cruz Cordova as the elf Arondir, a young Elrond played by Robert Aramayo, and Bronwyn played by Nazanin Boniadi.
The show, or at least the advertising, seems to have come a long way since its initial, disappointing-looking trailer. That one seemed cheap and kind of rushed, but the full, official trailer for The Rings of Power feels far more full of grandeur, though there are still a lot of shots that seem a bit too set-like. The show definitely seems to be taking a lot of influence from Peter Jackson’s take on the franchise, but why wouldn’t it? That look is iconic and by now defines what people think of as Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres on Amazon Prime on September 2. However, if you’d like to see it on the big screen, the first two episodes will screen at select Cinemark theaters two days before that.
