The New Mutants Reveals When Its New Trailer Will Arrive Next Month

New Mutants new trailer release date Fox X-Men horror spin-off

It’s been a long hard slog for The New Mutants, the X-Men horror film that’s been sitting on the shelf for the last couple years, but director Josh Boone has reaffirmed on Instagram that the film’s previously given release date of April 3, 2020 is the real deal, and a new trailer will land on Jan. 6.

The horror movie, which was part of Fox’s successful push to make edgier superhero movies to set themselves apart from Disney’s MCU films, follows five young mutants in their attempt to escape a secret facility where experiments are being conducted on them. The New Mutants got caught up in Disney’s massive buyout of 20th Century Fox and was delayed twice. Disney was unsure of what to do with the property as it began merging X-Men into Marvel, and it was said that the studio executives were not fans.

Disney’s returns on Fox’s X-Men movies have not been great with Dark Phoenix flopping hard and getting horrible reviews. The studio is probably pretty wary about releasing The New Mutants, but leaving it on the shelf makes little sense either since the film is done. Don’t get your hopes up about these characters joining the MCU, however, as there’s little chance the film will make the kind of money that would force Disney to put this version of the New Mutants into its cherished franchise.

The movie features a talented cast of young actors, including Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. We will see them in action in the new trailer next week.
