The Old Republic Gets Wookie Localization

Bioware shows off some April Fools’ humor with this latest news update.

When you’re making a game that spans an entire galaxy and features dozens of alien races on hundreds of different planets, localization is probably a pretty major challenge. As a result, BioWare has revealed that it’s translating the game into Wookiee, as seen in the attached video here.

According to BioWare:

From their subtle roar of sadness to the pleasant yelp of excitement, Wookiees are a role model for companionship, loyalty and respect, and we at BioWare and LucasArts want to show our appreciation. Therefore, all text in the game will be translated into Shyriiwook, and all voice-overs will be re-recorded by authentic, native Wookiee speakers.

So this is obviously an April Fools’ Day joke, but it’s fairly cute as such things go. The announcement page features a few other (pretty funny) videos of the translation in action.
