The Oriental Exorcist blends 2D action gameplay, RPG elements, and stunning art to create a game that looks extremely promising. Chinese developer Wildfire Game and publisher Bilibili released a trailer for their new game today to help show off its world of demons and fast-paced combat.
Judging from the trailer alone, The Oriental Exorcist’s looks like a two-dimensional Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Thankfully, the game’s Steam page (where it also goes by the name The Eastern Exorcist) offers up a bit more information on what to expect from Wildfire Game’s title:
The Eastern Exorcist is a stunning 2D side-scrolling action RPG set in a fictitious oriental world with the infestation of vicious demon monsters. Play as a skilled exorcist against chaotic evil to fight your way through the brutal world, and experience unforeseen entanglements of complex beings.
The Oriental Exorcist features hand-drawn art to tell its tale of the Dragon Man, who takes down plenty of twisted enemies throughout his journey.
Timing and patience are required thanks to the inclusion of a stamina mechanic, so every sword swing counts when heading into battle.
Along with an emphasis on quick, thoughtful gameplay is the trailer’s highlighting of some of the cinematic moments players will find throughout the game. The developers do not directly reference whether or not the game will focus heavily on story, but there at least seems to be some narrative happening in-between the fighting to drive players forward.
The Oriental Exorcist is coming to Steam and PlayStation 4 some time in 2020.
