CD Projekt Red has revealed that its era-defining RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to next-generation consoles. As with several other games, such as CD Projekt’s own Cyberpunk 2077, the upgrade will be free within the platform families for existing owners. In addition to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it is also slated to arrive on PC.
Exact details about the technological upgrades are not forthcoming, though the re-release will take advantage of the new hardware by adding ray tracing and shortening the loading times, among other unspecified improvements. It is being billed as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition, like the Nintendo Switch version.
As such, the release can be expected to include both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, as well as the numerous pieces of minor free DLC. It is, as yet, unclear whether existing owners will need to already have access to the expansions to be able to access them in the next-gen versions.
Of course, this new version of The Witcher 3 will be available as a standalone purchase for anyone who does not already own the game. At present, no release timing is available, though there is no indication this re-release will arrive within the launch window of the next-gen consoles.
