Thomas Was Alone Creator Turns Up The Volume

Who is [REDACTED]? Why does he steal?

Remember Thomas Was Alone, the rectangle-obsessed platformer from independent developer Mike Bithell? Well, that game’s success allowed Bithell to quit his day job, and one of the results of his newfound game development career is a stealth game about sound called Volume. He, David Housden – the fella who created Thomas‘ soundtrack – and a bunch of other folks have got together at Mike Bithell Games to make magic happen. And stealing. Lots of stealing.

“[REDACTED] Does not kill. That would be far too easy,” says the game’s initial release. “Instead, he commits his crimes through stealth. He sneaks, he distracts, he avoids. He is never seen, and seldom heard.” Except when he wants to be, as he sometimes uses sound as a lure, helping him slip past his enemies and into the loot rooms. For those of you who enjoy a little building of your own, every area of the game can be moulded to suit your least whim, added to, or even expanded. “This is a game which will evolve, warp and grow as players make their mark on [REDACTED]’s legend,” says the release.

No, we don’t know when this launches; that arriving unexpectedly 2014 is as close as you’ll get to a date. More will follow at GameCity in October.
