THQ Exec Quits, Management Reorganizes

Without explanation or indication of future plans, THQ’s Jack Sorensen has left the company; let the shuffling begin.

THQ’s product development team is in a state of reorganization, following Sorensen’s recent departure from the game publisher, Gamasutra reports this week. Since 2001, Sorensen served as the company’s executive vice president of worldwide studios. Neither THQ nor Sorensen himself offered any explanation of his decision to leave.

At the same time, the company announced three of its key executives have been promoted to newly-created positions, which will report directly to THQ CEO Brian Farrell. According to THQ, Roy Tessler was promoted to senior vice president of production and worldwide studios. Danny Bilson was promoted to senior vice president of creative development, and Steve DeCosta was promoted to senior vice president of product development finance and administration. The company says the reorganization is in support of its “continued focus on improving quality, predictability, and profitability.”

“This reorganization creates a more efficient management structure, aligning Roy, Danny, and Steve as my direct reports,” said Farrell, in a news release on the changes at THQ. “I look forward to working directly with them to more expeditiously achieve our quality, predictability, and profitability targets.”

Given the tone of Farrell’s rhetoric on the matter, Sorensen’s departure many not have been entirely voluntary. Though he goes on to acknowledge Sorensen’s contributions to THQ, it’s certainly feasible.
