A Tintin action-adventure game is in development for PC and consoles. Publisher Microids revealed a partnership with Moulinsart today that will bring a game based on the massively popular The Adventures of Tintin comic book series to players. Which consoles and a launch release window haven’t been specified, but the duo promises Tintin and his pooch sidekick, Snowy, will soon be featured in a new adaptation that will “transport the player into a whirlwind of incredible situations and suspense.”
Other characters, such as Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and Thomson & Thompson, are said to make an appearance of some sort, so expect other callbacks as well.
About the Tintin announcement, Nick Rodwell, director at Moulinsart, stated: “The upcoming PC and consoles video game inserts itself pretty well in the legacy of the most famous reporter’s adventures. Our ambition is to provide a mainstream audience with a fun and friendly game for everyone to enjoy. Microids is for us the ideal partner to bring to life this new Tintin’s adventure.”
Meanwhile, Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard commented on the partnership with Moulinsart, saying, “Our team members are fans of the famous reporter and will do their best to pay this franchise a vibrant homage.”
A proper title, art, and more will come “soon.”
Microids is 35 years old and has been involved in myriad video game projects, recently including publishing Blacksad: Under the Skin in 2019. As far as game development, the studio’s most recognizable work may be the Syberia adventure game trilogy, with Syberia 3 arriving in 2017.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Game released as a movie tie-in in 2011 but largely received sub-par reviews. Hopefully Microids’ efforts will give fans something more to chew on when the game manages to release.
