Titanfall Won’t Have Beta Access, In-Game Bonuses, As Pre-Order Perks

We’re still not sure how to get into Titanfall‘s upcoming beta, but it won’t be from pre-ordering the game.

Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, has confirmed that beta keys for the studios upcoming mecha shooter Titanfall won’t be available as a pre-order bonus. He was unable to answer exactly how we will be able to get beta keys, though, telling us that more information is coming in the very near future.

Furthermore, it looks like no form of DLC or in-game bonuses will be available as pre-order bonuses for the game, meaning you won’t get screwed over if you wait for the reviews. Here’s what we know about various retailer’s pre-order bonuses:

If you pre-order from Amazon, you’ll get yourself a free Prima “mini-guide” to the game, which includes a large, detailed map of one of the game’s levels. GameStop pre-orders will give customers a free poster, while Microsoft are offering discounts on future purchases to pre-order customers.

Finally, Walmart pre-orders will contain the “First to fall” patch, which appears to be a jacket patch featuring an imp on a rocket. Not sure what it has to do with the game (apart from the tagline) but whatever!

I think this is a fantastic idea, and one that more developers really need to put their foot down on – pre-order bonuses should not include DLC that gives you a leg-up over your competition or is important to a game’s story. I shouldn’t miss out on content just because I bought the game from a different retailer, or slightly after it’s release date.
