Part beat ’em up, part shoot ’em up, To The Death involves two warriors who just can’t let go of a grudge.
A team of game industry veterans who have worked on games such as Call of Duty and God of War has begun a Kickstarter campaign for its upcoming beat ’em up and shoot ’em up game, To The Death.
Two warriors have continued their fight after death in the world of the Crawl as a deep vendetta between the two has not been put to rest. Players alternate controlling each of the two warriors to see a story that impacts both characters. Developer teams Scary Mostro and Section Studios hope to offer a new experience by fusing two genres, as players will be able to both swing a weapon and shoot waves of enemies. To The Death can be played solo, co-op, or in competitive multiplayer. Players also choose abilities as they reach their opponent, finding combinations among different guns, sword moves, and shield upgrades.
Logan Cunningham, best known for his voice acting as Bastion‘s narrator Rucks, lays out the story of the Crawl on the Kickstarter. The two warriors threaten the balance of the Crawl, which is a “crossroads for past souls after death.” After turning their lands to ash, the two warriors continue their battle in this crossroads and will destroy everything in their path. The Crawl’s armies will try to take down both warriors, and by the final boss, the two warriors must cooperate to win.
Scary Mostro noted the game is fully functional and playable right now, and it runs at 60 fps. To The Death‘s estimated delivery is dated for May 2015. It will be be available on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux. The campaign funding goal is $400,000, and the crowdfunding campaign closes Feb. 19.
