Top 100 Pokemon – From 70 to 56

70-56 on the top 100 Pokemon list contains some old favorites, some brand-newcomers, and a little in between. There are Pokemon that look cool, Pokemon that are strong, and Pokemon that are adorable.

Keep an eye out for your favorites, and let us know in the comments if you would have struck any of these guys from the top 100, or maybe put them higher up on the list.

70-emboar

70. Emboar

Emboar, the final evolution of Tepig, is what happens when you cross a Mexican lucahdor with a pig, and then set it on fire. Its fire/fighting type (just like Blaziken) gives it a lot of advantages, and not too many disadvantages.

69-oshawott

69. Oshawott

Oshawott is another one of those “adorable water starters” we talked about with Totodile. It’s a baby sea-otter for Christs’ sake!

68-druddigon

68. Druddigon

Druddigon is a straight up mean and powerful dude. Added in Generation V, it is a pure dragon type with no evolutions. When you first encounter it in Pokemon Black and White‘s Dragon Tower, adding it to your team is a no-brainer, as it can learn some of the most powerful dragon attacks in the game.

67-talonflame

67. Talonflame

Talonflame is the final evolution of Fletchling, and is a buring bird. Having an extremely useful flying/fire type. A great alternative to the classic pure-flying types of Pidgey-Pidgeotto-Pidgot, Fletchling made its way onto many a X and Y player’s team.

66-hawlucha

66. Hawlucha

Although… even better than a flying/fire type is a flying/fighting type. Hawlucha is another luchador-inspired Pokemon (yeah, turns out there are quite a few) and as well as looking like Nacho Libre with feathers, is quite useful as a “HM slave”, as it can learn all of the important HMs like strength, fly, rock smash and cut.

65-espurr

65. Espurr

I’ll be honest, Espurr is on this list because it disturbs me. Its “I see dead people” thousand-yard-stare made it a kind of internet phenomenon, and it has plenty of memes based on its odd appearance

64-delphox

64. Delphox

Delphox, the final Evolution of Fennekin, is a fox wizard. A lot of people hated its design, but I think it’s actually kind of cool. The fire/psychic type it has is also pretty unique, and gives its access to a lot of cool moves. The only thing I have to wonder is how it hears with all that fur in its ears…

63-aegislash

63. Aegislash

Aegislash is proof of Nintendo running out of ideas and moving onto “making everyday objects into Pokemon”. In Aegislash’s case, it is a sword and shield. What redeems it is that its design is actually pretty cool, it can switch between an attack and defense mode, and it has a unique type combination: steel/ghost.

62-typhlosion

62. Typhlosion

Typhlosion is the final form of Cyndaquill and is a freaking echnidna on steroids. It also featured fairly heavily in the anime, as Ash had one.

61-magikarp

61. Magikarp

What can I say about Magikarp? One of the most useless Pokemon, that if you can manage to level up, turns into one of the most bad-ass: Gyarados. Fun fact: Magikarp and Gyarados are actually based on an old Japanese legend about a koi fish that swam up a waterfall and became a dragon.

60-absol

60. Absol

Absol is one seriously evil monkey. A pure dark-type, it is associated with great tragedies, and always appears just before a major disaster happens. It also has a pretty sick mega evolution.

59-moltres

59. Moltres

Moltres is one of the three legendary birds of the original Red and Blue games. Alongside Articuno (ice) and Zapdos (electric), it is kinda… meh. But it is still, nonetheless, an important Pokemon, setting the trend for the “post-game legendary trio” for games to come.

58-raikou

58. Raikou

Raikou is one of the legendary cats of Generation II, and is basically a thunder cat. It is a pure electric type and can learn some powerful electric moves, like its predecessor, Zapdos.

57-aerodactyl

57. Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is an “extinct” Pokemon that could only be obtained in the original games by bringing a fossil to a fossil specialist and having him revive it. It has a fairly strong typing of rock/flying, and its rareness ensured that you could really only get one per game.

56-latios

56. Latios

Latios and Latias are essentially the same Pokemon, so they only really get one space on this list. The pair feature fairly heavily in the anime and the movies, and you are (usually) limited to getting only one of the pair per game.
