The developers behind Lord of the Rings Online raised $40 million in their latest venture capital quest.
Turbine Inc. raised the money from Highland Capital Partners, Polaris Venture Partners, Columbia Capital, Tudor Ventures and Granite Global Ventures, whose managing partner enjoys a seat on Turbine’s board.
This is the third round of the company’s venture funding, which now stands at $88 million.
Turbine, also responsible for Dungeons & Dragons Online and Asheron’s Call, has proven fairly successful with Lords of the Rings Online, which has managed to wrest a respectable subscriber base from World of Warcraft. It netted an 86 review score on Metacritic.com
