Good news for people who can’t get enough of that old (new) Turok sweetness: MTV Movies Blog has revealed a live-action movie based on everyone’s favorite dinosaur hunter is in the works.
Turok, who began life in the mid-50s as a comic book character before being brought to videogames in 1997, will be portrayed by Adam Beach, best known for his starring roles in Flags of Our Fathers and the television series Law and Order: SVU. “We just finished the animated movie and now we’re going into the feature film movie hopefully in a couple years. We’re about to set up meetings to develop a script and put it out there,” Beach said. “I’ll have to beef up, and be a good guy, and save the world!”
The “animated movie” is Turok: Son of Stone, released in February, in which Beach voiced the character of Turok. He also provided the voice of the lead character in the latest Turok videogame, released in early 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Beach called the possibility of playing a Native American superhero a “dream,” adding, “He’s the first Native American superhero that I ever looked up to. He basically [comes from] a family where they’re protecting our universe from an alternate universe that wants to take it over. He uses his wits, and his might, and his special bow and arrow to take over the world.”
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter first appeared in 1997 on the Nintendo 64 and PC, and the series has since crossed the screens of the Nintendo Game Boy, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The newest Turok game “reboots” the franchise, and aside from the name and the presence of dinosaurs has nothing to do with the previous games or comic books.
