Sony’s live-action Uncharted movie just added Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) to its list of ex-directors.
Sony is now on the hunt for the video game movie’s sixth director according to a Deadline report. Tom Holland is still sticking around to play the film’s star, Nathan Drake, and Sony is “moving quickly” to find someone new for the director role.
Trachtenberg’s departure is not the only news for the Uncharted movie, as the report also states that the film will be Sony PlayStation Productions’ first feature film. Last year Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan set up the studio, which will produce Uncharted along with Chuck Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.
Director of The Fighter, David O. Russell, was first in line to direct the movie but dropped out in 2011. Next in line was Neil Burger (Limitless), then Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), followed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb), and finally Trachtenberg.
Sony has been busy with Holland recently, as the studio may be taking his Spider-Man out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to create films that stand separately, but negotiations are still under way.
Uncharted is set to begin production in early 2020, we hope.
