Brutal survival adventure game Unto the End is coming to consoles and PC early next month. Developer 2 Ton Studios and publisher Big Sugar revealed that the project will launch for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Dec. 9, with a Nintendo Switch release date coming just a bit later on Dec. 17. Xbox players subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will be able to enjoy the game through the service on day one. To help celebrate the news, 2 Ton and Big Sugar published a special commentary video, which you can watch below.
Unto the End promises “demanding but fair combat,” with an emphasis on encouraging player skill in a challenging, living world. Players must learn to read and react to the attacks of vicious opponents, as it only takes a few successful strikes from an enemy to cause death. The harsh, unforgiving environments will pose a challenge, too, thanks to different terrain and traps to overcome.
2 Ton Studios comprises husband and wife developer combo Stephen Danton and Sara Kitamura. Stephen provided a statement regarding today’s news: “Unto The End has been the focus of our day to day for the past few years and it’s been fantastic to have such a great response to the game already. But now we’re looking forward to Unto launching and everyone having a chance to experience the world and adventure we’ve created.”
The Escapist has already spent its fair share of time with Unto the End, with Phillip Moyer saying that he found himself playing the game’s demo “over and over” back in June of this year. Before that, Jeff Mattas played the game last November, coming away impressed by the game’s “palpable moment-to-moment tension.” Look forward to more coverage as the release date approaches in the next few weeks.
