The Vikings series finale is changing things up by debuting on Amazon Prime Video instead of History Channel (via Variety). Vikings seasons 1 – 5 have all first premiered on the latter, with one episode rolling out every week as each season progressed. However, come Dec. 30 in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria, and Ireland, Vikings season 6 will have its 10 final episodes dropped on Amazon’s streaming service simultaneously, allowing fans to potentially binge the remainder of the show’s final season in one day.
Vikings creator, executive producer, and writer Michael Hirst offered his thoughts on the change-up and the end of the show:
Our monumental Vikings saga is coming to its conclusion, but not before you’ve had to chance to watch some of my all-time favorite episodes. Prime Video will uniquely expose the series finale to a streaming audience first. Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way. And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.
The first half of Vikings season 6 made its way to History Channel earlier this year and is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. We got our first images of the show’s final season in July 2019.
The end of Vikings season 6 still has yet to receive a premiere date on History Channel, so fans hoping to catch the network’s weekly releases still have some waiting to do.
