Violinist Heads to Dr. Wily’s Castle With Mega Man 2 Cover

Violinist Taylor Davis has released a new video featuring her cover of Dr. Wily’s Castle from Mega Man 2.

I’ll confess to not having a tremendous amount of experience with the Mega Man games. I rented one once and took a crack at Mega Man 2 a few years back, but they just never grabbed me the same way that they did with other gamers. As casual as my involvement with the series is however, even I can recognize that the series’ probably has one the catchiest collective soundtracks in all of gamedom.

Case in point, violinist Taylor Davis recently released a new music video showcasing her rendition of the Dr. Wily’s Castle from Mega Man 2. The video itself is pretty straightforward, focusing in on Davis looking happy while she plays her violin. The highlight, not surprisingly, is the song itself which starts off with just the violin track but picks up with additional percussion that should get your feet tapping right quick.

What’s especially nice are the little personal touches and variations that Davis throws in. Don’t get me wrong, Dr. Wily’s Castle, on its own, is a seriously catchy tune. That said, it’s still a song from an NES game which means it was written with perpetual loop-age in mind. In other words, while it has the hum-ability and sticking power of radioactive superglue, it can also get a bit repetitious given time. In other words, a little variation from the basic version is nice.

This, of course, isn’t the first time someone’s seen fit to cover this particular Mega Man song. That said, even up alongside the likes of Video Games Live and Daniel Tidwell, I’d say that Davis’s take is a worthy addition to the throngs of cover songs based on Mega Man. The song itself can be found on iTunes. Give the video a watch and let us know what you think.
