@OsAndRavensFan1 We'll add "PS4 Link" app to PS Vita with the next update.— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) October 5, 2013
Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed via Twitter that the Vita will be getting a “PS4 Link” app similar to the PlayStation App coming to smartphones and tablets.
At this year’s Tokyo Game Show Sony unveiled the PlayStation App, a new social networking program for smartphones and tablets aimed at turning them into companion devices for the PlayStation platform. Promising the ability to send out game invites, stream gameplay and connect to the PS4 as a second screen, the PlayStation App left its impression on many of the brand’s devotees.
That in mind, it’s no surprise that some were left wondering if the app would be making an appearance on Sony’s PlayStation Vita. One fan, hoping to get answers took the question straight to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida via Twitter. Yoshida confirmed that the portable will be receiving its own version of the PlayStation App. “We’ll add ‘PS4 Link’ app to PS Vita with the next update,” he said.
While Yohshida’s Tweet will likely make many a PlayStation fan happy, it also raises some question. It’s interesting, for instance, that Yoshida would make a point of calling the Vita app something different than the PlayStation App at the center of the question he was answering. Calling it the PS4 Link suggests that it’s a different program. Likewise, while Yoshida confirmed the Link app would be coming with the next Vita update, we have no confirmed date for that update. Granted, it would make sense for it to becoming sometime before the PS4’s launch on November 15th, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see.
