Man, I wish my dad would make a track for a series of 1″ marbles to zoom around my room and I’m 32.
A father recorded video of his marble track in action. The wooden track is not quite a perpetual motion machine, instead it uses two battery-powered DC motors to help push along the 1″ marbles. But that doesn’t diminish the fact that this man has designed and created possibly the coolest decoration that he could for his youngest son’s bedroom. And it all cost him less than hundred bucks, most of which went towards the wooden materials. If you had any doubt whether the marble track was well-received, all you need to do is look at the first few frames of the young kid smiling from ear to ear as he starts up the machine. I have a thing with motion. I love it. From watching flowing water jump and leap around rocks in a mountain stream to spending hours watching videos of dominoes falling down, it just soothes me. I also derive a strange sense of joy from witnessing the mechanical genius needed to craft a working Rube Goldberg machine, a series of chain reactions that have no purpose other than to look cool.
So when I saw that a father built a track that encompasses both of these fascinations, I just just had to share it with all of you.
