Team17 has dropped the first teaser for a new game in the long-running Worms franchise.

The video itself provides few hints as to what the new game will entail, with most of the 50 second runtime taken up by footage from earlier 2D entries in the series, including the 1995 original. Nevertheless, a 3D worm appears towards the end, alongside staple weapons, including the baseball bat and holy hand grenade.

The video description promises that the upcoming title will be “Worms like you’ve never played before!”

“Things are getting real in 2020,” it continues. Meanwhile, the publisher’s website hints at “new ways to play.” Details about what those taglines allude to are unavailable at present, though Team17 says that more information will be coming soon.

Worms 2020 will be the first new entry in the series since 2016’s Worms W.M.D., which introduced vehicles and turrets while removing other features such as character classes. If the new game does employ a 3D interface, as the end of the trailer suggests, it will be for the first time since 2012’s Worms: Ultimate Mayhem.

Platform details have not yet been announced, but previous games have found their way to PC, consoles, and mobile alike. The game should be expected to arrive later this year.
