Latest update to Xbox One improves usability and adds a curated content panel.
Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb has detailed what’s new in the April update for Xbox One. The update, which releases to consoles today, adds the “What’s On” channel to the dashboards of Canadian, United States, and United Kingdom region consoles, along with a few smaller improvements to existing features.
“What’s On,” which has been in the Xbox One preview program since late last year, provides a curated list of popular video and game content directly on the dashboard.
Party chat users will now receive notifications for problems with their connection, including disabled microphones or privacy settings which may be preventing communication with some party members. These alerts will also provide direct access to relevant settings menus to help troubleshoot issues.
Notifications for achievements have expanded as well. In addition to the name of an achievement and the number of points earned, the notification will now display its description as well, saving users a trip to the achievements app to find out what they did to accomplish the task. Performance improvements have also been made to decrease the loading time to open the achievements app from within a notification.
Finally, if you’re waiting for voice messaging and dedicated server features to be added to party chat, the wait continues. These capabilities, currently in the preview program, are still being worked on for a future update.
