Nintendo has announced a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Nintendo Direct to air on June 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT. It will provide about 20 minutes of information about the game. We already know that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will launch on July 29 on Nintendo Switch and that there is a difficult-to-obtain special edition available exclusively through the My Nintendo Store. So, this Direct will likely focus on story and gameplay mechanics.
However, Nintendo has also done a pretty good job already of drip-feeding story and gameplay details for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on social media, so it’s surprising that it would choose to give the game its own dedicated Nintendo Direct. In the past, games like Monster Hunter, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Smash Bros. have received their own Directs, but those were generally occasions where the games had additional content to sell consumers. Perhaps Nintendo plans to announce Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC or an expansion like Torna ~ The Golden Country in advance of the game’s release.

Obviously, a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Nintendo Direct is not the type of Direct that most people were hoping for, but summer has not even technically begun yet. There is plenty of time for Nintendo to announce a full-scale Direct with new offerings to launch in the next year. Some potential projects we might see at one include a new Fire Emblem and Game Boy Advance games for Nintendo Switch Online.
