The man responsible for some of Sega’s biggest games over the past decade is getting his own studio, and it’s going to start hiring soon.
The Yakuza and Super Monkeyball franchises have undoubtedly earned Sega a ton of money over the years. As a result, it’s not too surprising to hear that the publisher has had the man who created these series start up a new development studio.
Toshiro Nagoshi, the man responsible for games like Super Monkeyball, Yakuza, and F-Zero GX, recently sat down to speak with Famitsu magazine and talk about the new development studio. The new group will be called “Ryu ga Gotoku Studio,” after the Japanese title for the Yakuza series.
While this may sound like Sega’s basically setting up a group to work exclusively on Yakuza titles, this isn’t actually the case. The first game it’ll put out is the squad-based shooter Binary Domain, followed by Yakuza Black Panther 2 for the PSP.
Nagoshi also explained that Ryu ga Gotoku Studio will have its ranks bolstered by Masayoshi Yokoyama, Masayoshi Kikuchi, Daisuke Sato, and Yojiro Ogawa. More staff will be added when the studio starts hiring in the near future.
